RELIABLE SOURCES inform the INQ that a number of AMD's partners will get delivery of dual core Opterons now this month. Tier one partners already have production level processors but this is a far more widespread release than just Hewlett Packard and IBM.
The first processors are, we're informed, likely to be for one, two and four/eight way machines, probably clocking at 2.2GHz.
It's the two year anniversary of the introduction of the Opteron in a couple of weeks. This could be the occasion for a more public introduction. But even if that's not the case, it's evident that AMD wants to show Intel it's capable of bringing the chips to production level in the second quarter - and early in the second quarter.
This suggests there's also motherboard support, of course.
