I may be flamed for this post being personal and off-topic, but my friends in the comp.arch newsgroup may be interested to learn that I have changed companies, moving from Intel in Oregon to AMD in California.
I would like to explain why I choose to change companies, but I probably should not go into details. Obviously, I hope that AMD is a better place for me to work than Intel. I hope that, at AMD, I will be able to be part of a team building microprocessors that will be just as successful, financially, as the processors I have worked on in the past, most notably the Intel P6.
Mike Haertel says that I should make this post memorable, making pithy comments on some important technical issue. I flatter myself that I am usually able to make such posts. However, I'm tired, and my mind is full of things I am not allowed to post about.
Obviously, although I am now an employee of AMD, this posting is personal, and does not reflect the position of AMD. In fact, I will probably seldom, if ever, post from my work account again. (I will only post from work on matters that can be considered part of my job.)
I would like to participate in comp.arch again as I have in the past, but being employed by microprocessor vendors like AMD and Intel posting to comp.arch can be "sensitive" - not officially, but unofficial FUD of saying something wrong leads to a great deal of self censorship. This is regrettable, because I personally learned more from comp.arch and the USEnet than I did from academia. In any case, I will not post until my .net.connectivity is sorted out.
Anyway, guys, you know where to find me now.
And, given that I am now living in the Bay Area, I think that it might be neat to meet a few more comp.archers in person.
