ABIT IC7-G in 203% CPU Overclock
Motherboard classic still a winner

January 4, 2006 – We recently reported about Robert "Crotale" Kihlberg's amazing 6 GHz CPU overclock in front of 6000 fellow enthusiasts, at the world's biggest computer festival, DreamHack, in Sweden. To achieve this quite astonishing overclock, Robert was using an ABIT AW8-MAX to crank up his Pentium 4 660 (rated at 3.6 GHz) to an insanely high frequency of 6009 MHz.

Now this crazy Sweden has done it again! Hardware enthusiast website NordicHardware.com recently concluded The Swedish Performance Championship 2005, and as it turned out, nobody could even touch Robert in the finals. Robert was the uncontested winner in the "Percentual Overclocking" category, and to achieve this, he managed to run an old Intel Celeron-M (rated at 1400 MHz) at a frequency of 4243 MHz!

If you want to get the highest percentual overclocks, you cannot use the latest CPUs, as these will be rated too high at stock speeds. By narrowing the frequency range, the ceiling for what the newer CPUs can deliver will soon be reached. Thus, Robert chose to work with an older CPU platform and an older set of motherboards: "I decided to go for a Celeron Mobile just as the previous year, but with better cooling this year. The main test was done with a Cascade setup (-100C) to check if the motherboard could keep up. It turned out that ABIT's IS7 card couldn't keep up over 280FSB, so the big brother IC7 which is good for 300 had to jump in. After a series of mods and a 4 day runt with liquid nitrogen we passed 4200MHz, and thus 200% overclocking."

Being the extreme overclocker that he is, this guy seems to have a thing for ABIT motherboards. Be it the AW8-MAX, or older classics, such as the IS7 and IC7, ABIT is very proud to be part of these legendary achievements in the world of tweaking and overclocking.
